Tippy and Lobo Go to the Farmer’s Market

A Morning Trip to the Market
The sun rose over the farm.
Today was market day!
Frank packed his farm-made foods into the cooler. Ginger waited beside Tippy and Lobo, her tail wagging.
“Are we ready?” asked Lobo.
“Ready for a new adventure!” said Tippy.
Frank smiled. “Then let us go to the farmers market.”
The truck rumbled gently down the road.
A Busy, Friendly Market
Soon, they arrived at the farmers market.
Rustle, rustle went the bags.
Clink, clink went the jars.
Friendly voices floated through the air. Farmers arranged their baskets. Families walked slowly from stand to stand.
Tippy looked all around. “There is so much to see!”
“And so much to learn,” said Ginger.
Frank’s Farm Stand
Frank placed his foods on the table.
There were fresh eggs from Ruby, Dot, and the other hens.
There was milk from Clover the cow and Juniper the goat.
There was cheese made from milk from the farm.
“These foods came from our farm,” Frank explained.
“The animals, the farmer, and the land all help one another,” said Lobo.
Ginger gave a happy little bark. “That’s right!”
The Vegetable Stand and the Little Seed Packages
Across the aisle was a vegetable stand.
Ginger led Tippy and Lobo across the market aisle. “These are our neighbors, Hans and Dolly,” she said. “They grow the vegetables at this stand.”
Hans and Dolly smiled and waved. “It is lovely to meet you,” said Dolly.
The table held potatoes, tomatoes, carrots, lettuce, and cucumbers.
Lobo looked at the vegetables. “How did the vegetables grow?” he asked.
Hans pointed to the little seed packages hanging from the wooden post.
“When we plant these tiny seeds in soil, they begin to grow roots,” Hans explained. “With water, sunshine, and time, each seed can grow into a plant. Then the plant can grow vegetables.”
Tippy leaned closer. “Such small seeds made such big food?”
“That’s right,” said Dolly. “The seed starts small, and the plant grows little by little.”
“Little by little,” Tippy repeated.
Tippy thought about the farm fields.
“Sun, rain, soil, and seeds work together,” he said.
“And farmers care for the plants,” added Lobo.
The friends smiled at the baskets of vegetables.
Every carrot, tomato, and cucumber had a story that began with a tiny seed.
“Thank you for explaining the seeds and vegetables to us,” said Tippy.
“Yes, thank you, Hans and Dolly,” said Lobo. “Now we understand how little seeds can grow into food.”
A Turn Across the Market Aisle
Then Ginger turned her head.
“Look over there,” she said.
Tippy, Lobo, and Ginger turned sideways across the market aisle.
Beside the vegetable stand was another table.
The smell of freshly baked pies filled the air.
Jars of strawberry, raspberry, and blueberry jam shone in the morning light.
And bright berries filled little baskets.
“That stand looks delicious,” said Tippy.
Meeting Marie and Jacques
Two friendly farmers stood behind the table.
Ginger gave a cheerful wag.
“Marie and Jacques, these are my friends, Tippy and Lobo.”
“It is lovely to meet you,” said Marie.
“Welcome to our stand,” said Jacques.
Tippy smiled. “It is lovely to meet you, too.”
Lobo looked at all the colors. “What do you have here?”
Pies, Maple Syrup, and Berries
Marie showed them baked pies.
Jacques lifted a jar of maple syrup.
“The syrup comes from maple trees,” he said. “We collect the sap from the maple trees, turn it into maple syrup, and pour it into jars.”
Then Marie pointed to the berries.
Tippy looked closely. “What are those?”
Jacques smiled. “These are strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries.”
“They all look different,” said Tippy.
The berries looked like tiny jewels in their baskets.
“Berries can be eaten fresh,” said Marie. “They can also be used in some baked foods.”
Lobo breathed in happily. “The whole market smells wonderful.”
An Invitation to the Berry Farm
Marie picked up a basket of bright berries.
“Our berry farm is not far from here,” she said.
Jacques smiled. “Would you like to visit us there on your next adventure?”
Tippy’s eyes grew wide.
“We would love to!” he said.
Lobo’s tail gave a happy swish. “I wonder how the berries grow.”
“You can see the berries, the plants, and the trees,” said Marie.
“And we can show you how we care for the plants,” added Jacques.
A Sweet Promise for Next Time
The market day was ending.
Frank gathered his empty baskets. Ginger walked beside Tippy and Lobo.
Behind them, Marie and Jacques waved goodbye.
In front of them was a new promise:
Next time, Tippy and Lobo would visit the berry farm.
“A new place to explore,” said Tippy.
“A new way to learn,” said Lobo.
Ginger wagged her tail.
And together, the friends headed home.
Heading Home Through the Forest
Tippy and Lobo followed the forest path home.
The warm light shone through the trees as they thought about everything they had learned.
Soon, they would return for a berry-farm adventure.
