Activities to try
Draw three circles labeled rain, thunder, and quiet. Add a feeling or body clue to each circle. Talk about what can help when a sound feels too big.
Draw five boxes labeled cloud, rain, soil, plant, and food. Draw or dictate what happens in each box.
Place the forest in the middle of a page. Add Farmer Frank’s pasture, Jacques and Marie’s berry and maple farm, Hans and Dolly’s vegetable farm, and The Busy Bee Honey Farm. Connect them with rain, plants, animals, food, and people.
Using paper strips or craft sticks with an adult, design a pretend dam. Talk about how a real beaver’s dam changes water and provides a pond habitat. Do not disturb a real dam or wildlife.
Draw five boxes labeled heavy rain, tree shelter, helpful rain, Molly’s dam, and tomorrow. Draw or dictate what happened in each place.
Make a comfort plan
Draw or dictate three things that can help when a storm or another big feeling arrives: a trusted person, a safe place, and a calming action. Children can answer by talking, drawing, pointing, or dictating their ideas to an adult.
